Make Abortion Rare
A CIVIL/HUMAN RIGHTS ISSUE...
"Twice in history the law excluded an entire class of people from their most basic human rights. The first was the Dred Scott Supreme Court decision when blacks were told they were property with no rights of their own. The second time was Roe vs. Wade, when an entire class of human beings was excluded from the protection of law, their fate declared a private matter ". Bob Casey, Democrat, Governor PA.
BABY ONLY 3/5 HUMAN?
fact, the United States
Supreme Court does not affirm that
pre-born infants are human at all. Consistent with their unanimous 1860
decision cementing a permanent 3/5 of a human status on any person who
is black and no human rights at all (Dred Scott, 1860), SCOTUS (supreme
court of the United
States), allows NO human rights, and NO civil rights to the unborn.
Legal elective abortion of full-term fetuses has been and still is, in
United States and many other jurisdictions, legal. Today abortable,
tomorrow- born- fully human with all rights. From a "choice" to
full protection of law in an
Logic of the majority decision in Roe vs. Wade is, because an unborn infant 1) derives nourishment, oxygen, and (temporary) shelter from it's mother , and 2) because it is small, silent, possibly unconscious with no memories, that, indeed, one day it is a human (after it is born), but the day before it is not, it is merely "tissue".
concept of "viability" also
has not been a deterrent to
late-term abortion (elective or otherwise). In case of threat to the
mother's health, the life of the "potential human" is often legally
sacrified. Late-term elective abortion is not unusual, legal in many
places until now. In the United States, and also in China, Vietnam, and
Canada and others.
Perhaps logical reason being, if full human and civil rights are allowed for any pre-born, then where is the line drawn where they may be legally and electively killed? Viability can vary greatly, especially with improving medical technology, from 5 months on. And how is a 4 month old really different from a 5 month old? Yes, not able to live outside the host, but still seperate DNA from her... needs only nourishment, oxygen, shelter to survive- just like the rest of us, what matter the source?
WELL, NOT HUMAN AT ALL ...
Does it make sense that a full-term infant is endowed with full human and civil rights the moment it emerges from the womb, yet the previous instant it is legally considered not human at all, subject to elective late-term abortion? Is it not obviously the same child from one instantaneous situation to the next? Changing only it's source of nutrition, oxygen, and shelter? And, from this late-term state back to the moment of conception, is there a point at which the gestating human is not alive, human, and unique from it's mother (different DNA)? What does it matter whether or not the infant can survive outside the womb, has a certain minimum intellectual capacity, or can feel pain in order to be considered human? How can we assume the fetus has no consciousness? Is it legal to kill people on life support equipment? Brain damaged? Unconscious? It should be recognized that decisions of the US Supreme Court (SCOTUS) are certainly not always right...in fact at least 10 SCOTUS decisions have been later reversed (notably, Dred Scott...); two by constitutional amendment, the rest by SCOTUS itself!
WOMEN NOT CONSIDERED HUMAN EITHER
same human rights pro-choice women deny their fetus, ironically, are
also denied to them in many places in the world. Historically many
cultures have viewed women as property, creatures without rights; same
as the human fetus is presently considered by law. The "Pater Familis"
(father of the family) of Roman times was legally afforded ownership of
his wife and could electively choose to end her life without legal
consequence. This attitude has prevailed throughout history up until
the present day worldwide. "Honor Killing" is still common in Middle
Eastern, South Asian, and Latin American countries as is "Rape
Marriage" in which a rapist can avoid legal punishment if he marries
the woman he raped (who has no choice). Honor Killings are committed
mainly for sexual violations including being raped, but also for simple
non-obedience to their owner, a man, either their father or husband.
Like anti-slave abuse laws of the later 1800's, cultures in which these
practices are common either have laws permissive of such, or have laws
against it which are not enforced. These attitudes are not confined to
third world countries; until recently it was legal in Texas and other
U.S. jurisdictions to kill an adulterous wife and her lover. Other
reasons for such "justifiable homicides" in the U.S. include simple
protection of property, your own or others.
ORIGINS OF LEGAL ABORTION IN EUGENICS
Also ironic are the motivations of the original pro-abortion movement of the early 1900's which included a desire to reduce populations of poor people, defective/disabled persons, blacks, and... women. See: abortion eugenics link.CHANGE THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY PLATFORM
The "rare" part of "safe, legal, and rare" has not happened...we continue to end the lives of 10's of thousands of gestating humans in the USA every year. It is, perhaps difficult to face the reality of what our society has put in place... the legal elective killing of hundreds of millions of living humans considered merely the property of their mothers. Just as it is difficult to fathom the Supreme Court of the United States, affirming that certain dark skinned people are only 3/5 human... Their decision to do so based on narcissism and lack of respect for human life and human rights. In the great majority of cases, the mother made a previous decision to have consensual sex , resulting in a later decision to kill. The Democratic Party is distinquished by its commitment to care for, and protect the people; all people. With programs to facilitate success of all, and laws to prevent corporate and other abuse- poisoning of the environment, thievery from the people. Our party should consider other ways than human fetus killing to support women in difficult circumstances.
- Eliminate abortion as back-up birth control (copper T)
- Sliding scale/free contraception on request (comm.health clinics) including IUD's.
- 15week elective limit (like most European Countries)
- 2nd, 3rd trimester "Personhood"
- Danger to mother's health-attempt to save both
- Exception to late-term ban requires approval
